The Clark County Black Caucus is a proud sponsor of the BSU Network in partnership with Clark County School District, and where ALL students are warmly welcome. Look for your club meeting at your school!
History
In 2013, the Clark County Black Caucus, a non-partisan grassroots volunteer organization, hosted their first African American Student Summit in partnership with CCSD and the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans at USDOE and UNLV College of Education with over 220 students. This event became an annual event and is at capacity each year. The BSU Network was founded in 2015 with five BSU clubs and their Advisors, after numerous complaints from students about school climate and culture...that they didn't feel valued, seen, nor welcome on their campus.
Today, the BSU Network family is proudly represented in 51 middle and high schools in southern Nevada, and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) operating as a Nevada nonprofit organization, still proudly driven by students and run by volunteers, and supported by the generosity of our corporate sponsors, community stakeholders, and Friends of BSU. EVERY $ donated goes directly towards the programs and activities in support of our 1500+ scholars from all backgrounds.
Additionally, the first annual BSU Conference was hosted at Desert Pines High School under the leadership of then BSU Advisor, Annette Collins. Now, along with most of our programs and events, BSU sponsored events rotate amongst our school sites, allowing us to showcase our BSU Clubs as hosts, with the support from their administration and school site family to be successful. This offers the students an opportunity to serve in leadership roles on campus, plan, organize and implement a successful event, while building valuable relationships with their administration, staff, other student clubs, and peers on campus. As a team it builds bridges, brings excitement to their schools, and creates a sense of belonging, pride and accomplishment for our students, improving school climate and culture where students thrive.
Currently, we are working to expand middle school site clubs to align with their feeder high schools. We have seen that with continued support through BSU students feel better supported and prepared with those difficult high school transitional years, and offers our high school scholars mentoring opportunities with their future peers. Middle school engagement also provides the BSU Network the opportunity to work with our students and beside their school site team for an additional three years. It is our expectation that we will see even more student success.
Additionally, we are excited to launch our much anticipated BSU Network Alumni Chapter, so that we can continue to better support and maintain valuable connections amongst our scholars as they pursue their college education or career path. We look forward to witnessing the power of this peer to peer driven initiative from our graduates and those dynamic outcomes.

Mission
Supporting students academic success by providing a safe and welcoming place on school sites, where students participate in creating a culturally welcoming school environment in partnership with their on-site school administration; sharpen leadership/life skills; access learning opportunities and community service; build self esteem/empowerment; and prepare for college and/or career paths for individual success.
Goal
Every day, too many young people are being left behind. But, at the BSU Network, we're doing something different: we're putting students, especially those facing adversity at the center of their own educational journey. More young people need our programs. The demand for emotional wellness support, personal development, and career/college-readiness resources has grown by over 650% since 2015. We can meet that demand with the help of our friends.
Therefore, we have one GOAL and we hope you'll join us on this journey:
Students graduate proficient and confident, and have the tools they need to begin careers prepared to overcome challenges, value relationships and themselves, and become visionaries for a better world where they actively participate and contribute.
